How long does the operation take?
The operation is performed under general anaesthesia and lasts about one hour, followed by a stationary stay of one night.
What happens after the operation?
As soon as you feel comfortable you can leave the hospital with a support bra, which you should wear for 6 weeks. In the first 24-48 hours you will notice moderate swelling, slight bruising, mild pain and minimal discomfort. It is normal that you will need weak painkillers. Most patients rest for the first 1-2 days after the operation, read, watch television and go for short walks. After 48 hours you will be able to shower normally with ” waterproof bandages”.
If you have a job where you do not have to do heavy physical work, you can probably start working again from the third or fourth day after the operation. At the request of my patients, I would be happy to perform this operation on a Friday to give them the opportunity to return to work on Monday or Tuesday.
After about one month, the majority of patients feel “normal” again. Slight bruising and possible swelling will have largely disappeared. Your breasts will still take their “final” position in the coming months and will lose that last bit of swelling, but after a month most women report feeling “normal” again.
In week 6-8 you may resume all your usual sports activities, with the exception of competitive sportswomen where the chest muscles are used more intensively. Of course, these times are only an approximate experience and not a must. Your body will take as much time as it needs.
Who can I contact in an emergency?
You will be given an appointment for a wound check and change of bandages. If you are unsure or have any questions, you can call me at any time, even at night, or write a message. In the rare case that I should be on holiday after surgery, I will discuss this with you in advance and inform you of the contact of my substitute (also a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery).
What costs can I expect?
The costs for the first visit and the first detailed clarification discussion amount to 120 euros. If you decide to have a breast-enlargement operation, you will of course be credited with 120 euros. A breast-enlargement surgery starts at a price of 5500 Euro. This price includes detailed medical consultations, clinical examinations, the cost of the implants, the stationary stay, thorough follow-up treatment and anaesthesia.
The costs vary depending on the type and size of the implants and the surgical technique. Of course you will be informed in detail about the costs in advance.
Can complications arise?
Yes, every surgical procedure involves a certain amount of risk. Complications can also occur with breast augmentation. Despite careful hygiene measures and precise surgical techniques, in rare cases post-operative bleeding, infections or impaired wound healing can occur. Furthermore, capsular fibrosis or asymmetries can occur. It is important to me not to conceal this but to talk openly with you about it. If there are complications I will not leave you alone and of course I will stand by your side until you have your desired result.
What is capsular fibrosis?
This is a natural reaction of your body to the silicone implant. Their connective tissue encloses the implant with a shell. This sheath helps, among other things, to fix the implant in place and thus prevents it from slipping. This connective tissue sheath can, for reasons not yet known, harden, i.e. fibrotically transform itself. Depending on the stage, this hardening is then visible and may be felt by the patient. In order to avoid the development of capsular fibrosis, there are strict hygiene regulations and treatment concepts which I naturally adhere to. In rare cases, however, a painful deformation of the breast may occur, which can only be corrected by a new operation with removal of the capsule and implant.
What happens to the ability to breastfeed?
Your ability to breastfeed will be maintained. However, I would first advise you to stop breastfeeding your baby and then think about breast augmentation. It is not uncommon for breast augmentation to be carried out after breastfeeding with simultaneous lifting. You therefore save yourself an additional operation.
Which implant manufacturers are used?
If you decide to have a breast augmentation with me, you will only receive certified brand products of the latest generation. Only through high quality implants can I guarantee that you will enjoy your new breast for a very long time. For several years I have been using the silicone implants of the German company Polytech and B-Lite. This latest generation in particular is light, feels “more natural” and is also dimensionally stable. In addition, I trust in the many years of experience of this company, which raises verifiable quality and safety standards.
Do I need round or anatomical implants?
In short, both implant forms have their advantages. Round implants are more suitable for a fuller décolleté. Anatomical (drop-shaped) ones create a more natural look.
